Lithoponium

Lithoponium (Lithopone) is the rediscovered white pigment with functional properties suitable for various applications.

Lithoponium is chemically inert and practically insoluble in acids, alkalis and solvents. The optimized particle size distribution of Litoponio obtained through co-precipitation and calcination allows to obtain a high apparent density, which gives Litoponio its low resin requirement and excellent rheological behavior.

The low Mohs hardness of the pigment produces low abrasion compared to TiO2.

Other notable properties of Litoponio are its high lightness, neutral white color and diffuse reflection in the range close to UV. Thanks to its rheological and optical properties, Litoponio offers technical and economic advantages wherever organic and inorganic binder systems require relatively high pigmentation for specific applications. Therefore, lithoponium has traditionally been used in stoppers and putties, compounds for joints and sealants, primers and undercoats, as well as in road sign paints.

The so-called “barrier effect” allows good corrosion protection to be obtained in the primers.

VB Chemicals' engineering range of Litoponio “Seal family” chemicals fully meets European regulatory standards and is suitable for all applications, such as:

  • Pastas
  • Coatings
  • Masterbatch
  • Compounds
  • Polymers
